Performance Physical Therapy and Sports medicine is happy to announce our new vestibular center. The vestibular center was founded in 2018 by Michael Trammell, PTA Certified Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapist. He has extensive knowledge treating various vertigo diagnosis for over ten years. This is the first facility of its kind in Rome, Georgia and surrounding areas. We are dedicated to the rehabilitation of vestibular (Inner Ear) disorders and balance deficits. Our certified therapists work one-on-one with patients to eliminate dizziness and improve their balance in order to reduce fall risk. Using the latest evidence-based practices, we can help you recover and return to an active lifestyle.
We regularly treat the following conditions:
- BPPV / Vertigo
- Bilateral / Unilateral Vestibular Hypofunction
- Migraine-Associated Vertigo
- Labyrinthitis / Vestibular Neuritis
- Meniere’s Disease
- Acoustic Neuroma
- Disequilibrium and Gait Abnormalities
Quick, Effective Treatment for Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
At Performance Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine’s vestibular center, we understand how vestibular issues can impact your activities of daily living. Basic activities, such as getting out of bed, driving, grocery shopping or working on a computer may suddenly make you feel dizzy, off balance, or nauseous. These episodes often cause fear of falling and anxiety. We successfully treat patients with BPPV every day.
Many people go to their primary care provider, Urgent Care or Hospital ER with complaints of dizziness, only to be dismissed and told there is no treatment. Some patients are given medications that temporarily mask symptoms, but come with unwanted side effects.
There are some medical providers who may be unaware that certified vestibular therapist can treat vertigo. Our patients often visit hospital emergency rooms, or other medial specialists before reaching our office because vestibular issues can be complex and difficult to diagnose.
On your first visit, your vestibular therapist will conduct a series of tests that look at how your vestibular system is functioning, along with your vision and proprioception to maintain your balance. After your first visit, you will have a much better understanding of what you are experiencing and how vestibular therapy can help you. If you do have a diagnosis of BPPV most of the time our methods are 85% to 90% effective in relieving your symptoms in two to three visits.
Vestibular Hypo function:
Reduction or loss of vestibular (Inner Ear) function results in difficulty maintaining balance, when walking in the dark or on uneven surfaces. Other symptoms include patient’s ability to see clearly during head movements or feelings of being off-balance.
Vestibular rehabilitation therapy can improve postural stability, decrease the sense of disequilibrium, and improve visual acuity during head movements with activities of daily living.
The treatment for vestibular hypofunction involves the combined use of gaze stabilization exercises and exercises that foster the substitution of visual and somatosensory information to improve postural stability and the development of compensatory strategies that can be used in situations where balance is stressed maximally. Your vestibular therapist will provide a personalized home exercise program based on your needs. Schedules are typically twice a week for five weeks or until symptoms resolve.
Can we help you restore function and meet your personal goals?
